Obituary for Rev. Reginald A. Siegler

Pastor Reginald A. Siegler, 102, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 7, 2014, at Hillview Healthcare Center in LaCrosse. He is now enjoying his heavenly home.

Pastor Siegler was born May 17, 1912 to Pastor Carl W. and Emma (Hansen) Siegler in Bangor, WI. He received his education at the Lutheran Elementary School in Bangor, WI, Northwestern Preparatory School and College in Watertown, WI, and at the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, WI. Upon graduation in 1937, he served two years as teacher, coach, and dorm supervisor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI.

In 1939 he married Virginia DeGalley of Milwaukee. They moved to Whitehall, WI where he served as Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Whitehall. She died in childbirth, together with their infant son, in 1940.

In 1941 Pastor Siegler was called to be the assistant pastor at Friedens Ev. Lutheran Church in Kenosha,WI. While serving there, he met and married Hildegard Tews on January 11, 1942. The Lord blessed their marriage with three children, Carl, Dorothea, and Richard. He was a very special father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren always looked forward to time with Grandpa.

After serving in Kenosha, Pastor Siegler served congregations in Madison, Rock Springs, and Bangor, all in Wisconsin. He was involved in establishing mission congregations in Kenosha, Middleton, and Sauk City, WI.

Pastor Siegler served on the Board of Control of Northwestern College for 18 years, 12 of them as Chairman of the Board and member of the Synod Council. He retired from the full time ministry at St. Paul’s in Bangor in 1984 and they moved to LaCrosse.

In college Pastor Siegler was involved in football, basketball and hockey. His interest in sports continued throughout his life as he fished and golfed whenever possible. He especially enjoyed wading the trout streams near Bangor.

Music was dear to his heart. Serving as a church choir director gave him much joy. He composed many songs for his choirs and for his grandchildren to play on their various instruments. He played cello, piano and clarinet, and was a member of the Da Capo Band in LaCrosse for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Hildegard in 2012, his parents, his son Carl in 1983, and his two brothers Hilbert and Oscar.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Susan Siegler of LaCrosse, WI, his daughter, Dorothea (Joel) Buege of Crete, IL, and his son, Richard (Marilyn) Siegler of Manitowoc, WI. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Pastor Rimmert for his ministry to Pastor Siegler and the staff at Hillview Healthcare Center for their loving and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15th, at Grace Lutheran Church in LaCrosse. The Rev. Jonathan Rimmert will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bangor. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the service.
