Obituary for Marilyn Joyce Hunt (Miedema)

Marilyn Joyce Hunt (Miedema)
Marilyn Joyce (Miedema Stluka) Hunt, 85, of West Salem passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 2, 1930, in Holmen, Wisconsin, to Jacob and Gertrude Miedema. She attended Halfway Creek School through the ninth grade when she left to work their family farm after all three brothers were drafted into World War II service in Europe.

After WW II, Marilyn worked at LaCrosse Autolite, married Robert Joseph "A.J." Stluka, Sr., and had three children. In 1970 she became the first female bus driver for the Holmen School District, which she did proudly and accident-free for the next 25 years. She continued her love of the open road by driving tour buses and later RVing around the country with her last husband Jack.

Marilyn was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan, loved playing poker, slot machines at casinos, bowling, polka dancing, antiquing, drinking her coffee, and her beloved dog Scamp.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and all three brothers: Leland "Lee" (Ethel); Eldon "Al" (June); and Gerald "Joe" (Norma). She is survived by her "three greatest assets", her children:  Robert Joseph Stluka, Jr. "Bobby" (Mary) of Monett, MO; Daniel Lee Stluka "Danny" (Jill) of Saint Paul, MN; and Kathy Lynn Stluka (Susan Clark) of Minneapolis, MN.

Marilyn has one cherished grandchild, Kristin Marie (Jeremy) Canady and one great granddaughter Katherine Marie "Baby Kate" of Nixa, MO, and one step grandson, Lyndon (Jill), along with numerous friends at Mill Street Manor in West Salem, WI, and a sprinkling of nieces and nephews.
