Obituary for Marcella Elvera Koss (Storandt)

Marcella Elvera Koss, 87, of Mindoro died Friday, July 10, 2020. This past February, Marcella was given a health diagnosis that held very little hope for recovery. At that time, Marcella made the decision to accept whatever was to come, she decided to forgo suggested treatment, and went home to be cared for and loved by her family. In the following months, Marcella regained her strength and was discharged from Hospice, gave several sewing and cooking lessons, and embroidered many pillowcases for her family. She was also able to take one last vacation to South Dakota in early June, which she really enjoyed. Marcella passed away peacefully, having lived a full and happy life.

Marcella was born on November 27, 1932 to Ray and Aagot Storandt. She was raised on the Storandt farm and graduated from Mindoro High School. She married Robert (Bob) William Koss on July 25, 1951. They bought their first farm shortly after, and Marcella worked on the farm, alongside Bob, until he retired from dairy farming. She went on to work for Northern Engraving for 20 years and retired at the age of 75. Marcella and Bob were married for over 60 years, they had 9 children, and enjoyed many years living in Mindoro.

Marcella served as a 4-H leader, was a member of the Pine Tree Riders Club, and was a longtime member of Ladies Aid for the Mindoro Presbyterian Church. She was an active homemaker; sewing clothes for her family, tending large gardens, baking all her own bread, canning, and cooking meals for many farmhands. A favorite picnic meal of her homemade fried chicken was often included on family Sunday drives. The grandchildren could always count on her to make their favorite requested dessert for family events.

Marcella is survived by one son, Robert Jr. (Bobby), and his children: Rob (Raphie) Koss III, Justin (Heather) Koss, and Angie (Tim) Werner; three daughters and their families: Susan (Randy) Miller and their children: Jennifer (Jonathon) Kloehn, Sarah (Joshua) Riley, Matthew (Amanda) Miller, and Jason (Kasey) Miller, Jeanette (Clayton) Anderson and their children: Nathaniel (NJ) and Elijah (Eli) Smith, Melissa and Nicholas Anderson, Sharon (John) Schoolcraft and their children: Jessica (Jeff) Senst and Jamie (Mike) Niedfeldt; Cindy (Duane “Chub”) Rommel and their children, Dawson and Josie. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Jake Windsor, Sam (Rosemary) Windsor, and Mike Windsor; two sisters, Margaret (the late Donald) Haag and Gloria (Jacob) Jenson, one sister-in-law, Carol (the late Reuben) Storandt. She is also, survived by 36 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 4 children:Lorie, Michael, Kenneth, and Marjorie Windsor; her son-in-law, Daniel Windsor, one great grandchild, Reznor Neidfeldt; and 2 brothers, Raymond Storandt and Reuben Storandt.

Private graveside services will be held at the Farmington Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Skogen will officiate. A celebration of life will be held at the Koss Farm on July 25, 2020 at 12 noon, with a short memorial at 1:00pm.

The family would like to thank Pastors Allen Hanson and Scott Skogen, the Mindoro First Responders, and the Gundersen Health Medical team for support to the family.
