Helen Teckla  Peterson
Helen T. (Humfeld) Peterson, 96, of Holmen, died on Friday February 12, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Onalaska. She was born on January 15, 1920 to Benjamin and Margaret (Behrens) Humfeld on a farm on La Crescent Ridge. She married Raymond Peterson on July 28, 1942. Together they raised 6 children while farming on Sand Lake Road. He preceded her in death in 2006. Although she was deaf and lived in a silent world for many years, she still enjoyed life with family and friends. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, and even had a deck of cards from every state she visited as they traveled. She also loved gardening and was an awesome cook. Helen had worked for 17 years as a hot lunch cook for St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Onalaska.

Helen is survived by 4 children: Rose (Howard) Horman, Kathleen (Steve) Kamla both of Onalaska, James (Sue) Peterson of Holmen and Nancy Gilbertson of Eau Claire; a son-in-law Victor (Beth) Buhr of Holmen; 10 grandchildren: Howard (Lori) Horman, Jr., Deanna (Tom) Mason, Kevin (Andrea) Nerby, Kimberly (Todd) Garves, Justin Peterson, Jared (Sara) Peterson, Jacob (Anna) Peterson, Seth (Sarah) Gilbertson, Shayna Gilbertson, and Cade (Kristine) Elliott; Great-Grand-Children Jordan, Dylan and Gavin Mason, Hannah and Guenther Horman, Brandon (Toni) Weigel, Elijah Nerby, Tayler, Lauren and Jennifer Garves, Peyton, Wyatt, Brody, Elianna, Silas and Asher Peterson, Hailey and Luke Gilbertson, Cashton, Kennedy, Reese and Lacy Snodgrass, and baby boy Elliott who is due in June. Step-great-grandchildren Cambree and Libertee Wentz; 2 sisters-in-law Margaret Humfeld and Alice Humfeld; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, children: David Peterson and Debra Buhr; a brother, Dick Humfeld and a sister Anna Meier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday February 16, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Holmen. The Rev. John Parr will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
