Obituary for Floyd Parker Schanke

Floyd Parker Schanke (88) born May 13, 1932, of Onalaska, died peacefully on December 16, 2020 at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, WI with his beloved wife of 67 years at his side.

Floyd graduated from Independence High School in Independence, IA. He worked at John Deere Company for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 23 years. His deployments included Newfoundland, Japan and Viet Nam. He then went on to serve 17 years as County Veterans Service Officer for La Crosse County.

His time in the military allowed Floyd and Marcella to travel the world and meet many friends along the way. After retirement, Floyd enjoyed many years on his boat fishing the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi, with his companion Benji. Floyd was an avid outdoorsman, and his love and passion for fishing and hunting inspired others. Grandpa loved spending time with his grandkids, sharing stories, eating sweet treats and pinching a penny.

Floyd will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marcella Schanke, his sister Pauline (Jim) Donahue, his children Gary Schanke, Judy (Timothy) Eck, Rodney Schanke, grandchildren Adrienne (Ryan) Kamerick, Jennifer (Justin) DeBlasis, Kyle (Jennifer) Eck, Alexandria Schanke (Ross Holt), Hailee (Matthew) Buehler, and 8 great grandchildren; Carson, Marin, Owen, Stella, Kade, Elise, Parker, and Jamison. Floyd was preceded in death by his best companion, Benji, mother Eva (Hurd) Schanke, father Lloyd Schanke, and siblings Wilma, Edna, Betty, Kenneth, and Bob.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when we can all gather together safely. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Floyd Schanke's name.
