Obituary for Earl Lester Cook Jr.

Holmen, WI: Earl L. Cook, Jr. age 78, of Holmen, WI, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home. He was born on June 27, 1936 in Stevenstown, WI to Earl R. and Bertha E. (Kowitz) Cook, Sr. He married Alice M Rush on August 17, 1957 in Onalaska, WI. Earl served in the US Army from 1954 – 1955 and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in December 1962. Following his stint in the Army, Earl worked as a union brick mason and worked for many area construction companies. He and his wife also operated the Hilltop Tavern in Stevenstown for 17 years.

Earl is a member of the Holmen American Legion Post # 284, the La Crosse County Voiture 830 Of The Societe Des 40 Homme Et 8 Chevau, and he is a former Post Commander of the Onalaska American Legion Post 336. A very special day was when Earl was able to take the Freedom Honor Flight to Washngton D.C. in September of 2011.

Earl is survived by his wife Alice of Holmen, WI; 1 son Kevin (Peggy) Cook of Black River Falls, WI; 6 grandchildren Daniel Reynolds, John Cook, Skyler (Bobbi) Cook, Sean Cook, Steven Cook-Urbanek and Justin Cook; 1 great-granddaughter Lindsey Marie Cook; a sister-in-law Marilyn Hollis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant sons Dennis and William; a brother William G. Hollis; 2 sisters Elaine Eggen and Julia Cook; his father and mother-in-law William and Helen Rush; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of life will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Holmen American Legion Post. Military Honors by the Holmen American Legion Post 284 will be held at 1:30 pm at the post.
