Obituary for Catherine Bernice "Cathy" Byrne (Skolos)

Catherine Bernice "Cathy" Byrne (Skolos)
Catherine B. “Cathy” Byrne, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at her home at the age of 63, following a year of fighting cancer. She left us much too soon. She was born on August 14, 1952 in La Crosse. She is survived by her life partner Wally Solberg, and his children who cherished her; Lisa Strange and her son Jacob of La Crosse; Wendy (Kort) Korthuis-Smith and their children Grace and Claire of Olympia Washington and Wade (Jackie) Solberg of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; She is also survived by her brother Richard (Mary) Skolos and their children Brandon and Kenzie of Kendall, Wisconsin, a step -sister and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, uncles and Aunts.

Cathy and Wally enjoyed many years of travel by motor home, camping and flying around the country. Her bucket list was quite complete but she wanted to see her flowers bloom in the spring. She wrote “Do not worry about the future, It will be here before you know it. Just enjoy today and your journey in life.” Cathy always smiles at everyone and had a heart of kindness to many people who will miss her very much. She was too young to leave us.

Cathy worked many years at Mayo Clinic Health System and wants to thank the doctors, nurses and hospice for her care. Her time fighting was eased so much by her friend of 40 years Barb Kemp, Billy Mc Lees and Lisa Strange.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday January 24, 2016 at the Fossum Funeral and Cremation Service in Onalaska, Wisconsin. Burial will be held at a later date in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Online condolences may be left at www.fossumfuneralhome.com.
